Culturally sensitive IEC and training materials
The project produced an RH training guide for BS/GG leaders with sample participatory activity sheets intended for boy scouts and girl guides. This guide was elaborated by a multidisciplinary team comprising educators, scout commissioners and medical doctors. Its outline and contents have been developed by the above team , drawing upon lessons learned and achievements of national experiences , in close consultation with the 24 Boy Scout and Girl Guide Commissioners representing the seven participating BS/GG Associations. The draft version was experimented and validated during regional and sub-regional workshops and Arab BS/GG camps., in addition to sending copies to CST/Amman and WHO/EMRO for comments and review.

The training guide ( 320 pages / folder form/ 1000 copies produced) includes a forward , an introduction, a section on how to use the guide, and five thematic modules, in addition to 2 modules on teaching / learning methodologies , and evaluation respectively and a list of references.

Each substantive module covers the basic concepts and terminology and includes 4 to 6 participatory activity sheets intended for the animation of enter-educate sessions targeting boy scouts or girl guides in small group ( 8 to 24 participants maximum). The participatory activity sheet concentrates on two major concepts/ health messages and or skills , specifies the cognitive objectives, skills and attitudes to be developed and includes an evaluation of the session. It is to be noted that the theoretical/ conceptual part is self-contained and is primarily intended for the trainer/ facilitator , while the activity sheet is primarily intended for grass roots.

The substantive modules cover the following topic taking into account the socio-cultural values of the Arab region: module one: Adolescent and youth health; module two : Growth and development during adolescence; module three: Reproductive Heath ; module four: STDs/HIV/AIDS ;module five: Family formation and gender roles . The last two modules are methodological and cover training methods and evaluation respectively. In addition to the above, a manual on the elaboration and production of low cost IEC materials and the Arabic adaptation of the WHO facilitators guide on adolescent RH counseling skills training were distributed during regional training workshops , in addition to conceptual, methodological and position papers prepared for training purposes..

The project produced and disseminated 10 000 copies of an annual wall calendar (1999) with 12 comic posters illustrating an RH message.

At the national level , partner BS/GG Associations, in close cooperation with Health Authorities and NGOs , produced leaflets on adolescence, STDs/HIV/AIDS, pre-marital medical exam..etc. Moreover, all available printed and audio-visual materials on RH and HIV/AIDS Prevention were used and disseminated to target groups during training and awareness creation activities and campaigns.
