| Capacity building and
expertise: the multiplier effect |
The Project contributed positively to the
national capacity building in Adolescent Reproductive
Health of 47 BS/GG Commissioners ( 24 GG) of the partner
boy scout and girl guide association in the above
mentioned countries through the five regional training
workshops on Adolescent Reproductive Health, the Narrative
Research on Adolescent RH/SH Behavior Patterns,
Elaboration of RH/IEC materials, and ARH Counseling Skills
Training respectively. Moreover, the 7 sub-regional
workshops expanded this capacity building to 108 girl
guide leaders and 208 boy scout leaders from Tunisia,
Morocco, Libya, Algeria, Jordan, Sudan, Gaza Strip & West
Bank, Lebanon, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates.
In addition to the above and at no
cost
to the Project, training at the national and local levels
in the seven selected countries (Bahrain, Jordan, Lebanon,
Morocco, Sudan, Tunisia, and the United Arab Emirates)
further expanded capacity building to 2616 girl guides and
2070 boy scouts.
The Scout Movement’s expertise in ARH received
recognition. The Regional Project Coordinator was invited
by WHO to participate in three regional meetings on
adolescent health: WHO/EMRO Adolescent Health Regional
Committee ( Tunisia Oct.1999), WHO/EMRO Adolescent Health
Counseling Expert Group Meeting (Lebanon Dec. 1999) and
the NGOs Committee of the 47th session of EMRO Regional
Health Assembly (Cairo Oct 2000).
