| Strategic Partnership
with the Arab Scout Organization for Youth Reproductive
Health |
A
strategic alliance for adolescent reproductive health
promotion was established in the Arab States Region with
the Boy Scout and Girl Guides Movement through the UNFPA
funded Regional Project RMI/98/P01 “ Integration of Youth
Reproductive Health into Boy Scouts and Girl Guides
Education and Community Development Programmes”
implemented by the Arab Regional Office of the World
Organization of the Scout Movement.
The selection of the Arab Scout Organization/ Arab
Regional Office as implementing agency was made on the
basis of the following considerations:
The inherent comparative advantages of Boy Scouts and Girl
Guides Movement : Sharing same ideals and working towards
achieving a common goal hence greater group dynamics and
commitment; voluntarism and built-in peer education and
support; educational and community development activities
as well as leadership development fit perfectly health
education and promotion activities.
The Arab Scout Organization/ Arab Regional Office of the
World Organization of the Scout Movement covers 19 Arab
States and works closely with BS/GG Associations which are
affiliated to it. Its International Scouting Center in
Cairo includes hostel facilities for thirty participants,
a fully equipped training center ( 4 rooms) and a large
conference room with translation facilities, in addition
to the secretariat of the regional office.
Its solid experience in implementing programs intended for
young people, including STDs/ HIV/AIDS Prevention
programs, and youth for youth initiative in cooperation
with UN Agencies and International NGOs ( WHO, WHO/EMRO,
UNICEF, UNESCO, UNCHR, IPPF, International Red Cross & Red
Crescent, DANIDA, …etc)
The Project aimed at achieving the following immediate
objectives during the Project’s life span (1998-2000):
